Shawn and Crane are driving through downtown Piedmont.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The signals from the satellite are getting very strong,” says Shawn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Sir!” shouts Sgt. Crane. “Did you see that, Lieutenant?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“See what, Crane?” asks Lt. Shawn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Over there, by the fence,” says Crane. “It looks like a body.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Easy, Crane,” replies Shawn. “You’re imagining things.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Suddenly, there’s the sound of brakes on the radio as the van comes to a halt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Ho-ly,” says Shawn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Sir, it’s another one,” says Crane. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“You’re right,” says Shawn. “It looks dead.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Yes, sir,” says Crane, “Shall I?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“No!,” says Shawn, “Stay in the van!” <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Back at Scoop Mission Control, Lt. Comroe picks up his microphone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Vandal Deca to Caper One,” says Comroe, “What’s happening?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We see bodies,” replies Shawn. “Lots of them.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Are you certain, Caper One?” asks Comroe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Dammit, Comroe,” says Shawn, “Of course we’re certain!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Comroe picks up an Army manual. “Your orders are…” He looks down the contingency list – “proceed to satellite and retrieve.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There’s a pause. “Roger, Vandal Deca,” says Shawn. There are sounds of the van starting up again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Several of the airman stand up from their consoles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Stay at your stations!” shouts Comroe. “Hit that Security button!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the console operators presses a button, and the word “SECURITY” appears over the door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Get me Major Manchek,” says Comroe, into a phone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Somehow, they don’t hardly look dead, Lieutenant,” says Crane. “They’re all over the place, sir.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
