TITLE: SECOND DAY<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An Air Force UH-1N Iroquois lifts off from an airfield, carrying Drs. Stone and Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dempsey, the pilot, sits in the right seat. Stone and Hall sit in the back. All three are wearing what appears to be spacesuits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Are you sure the satellite isn’t radioactive?” asks Hall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“No,” says Stone. “Manchek showed me the telemetry reports. Presumably, it could be some form of space germ.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Presumably this stuff is nonporous,” replies Hall, pinching Stone’s space suit. “Why did you pick me?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“You’re an M.D.,” says Stone, “a talented surgeon who knows blood chemistries – – and you’re single. The ‘Odd Man Hypothesis.'”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“What the hell is -” begins Hall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
