“To do that, you have to become familiar with the entire facility,” says Stone. He punches a button on the table. A video display of the Wildfire labs appears on a wall screen. “It can be studied on this electronic diagram,” explains Stone. “Which rotates to afford an overall view, or can be stopped at any section. Detailed plans of the various levels and labs are also stored in the system.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stone presses another button and a 2-D map of their current level is displayed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We’re on Level One,” says Stone, “of a five-story, cylindrical underground structure, surrounded by solid rock. Each level has three substations, indicated by the yellow lights. In the event the nuclear device is triggered, you can still cancel self-destruct by inserting your red key in a substation.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hall looks at the key. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“After our last simulation run,” says Stone, “we decided to add two more substations per level, but they’re not finished yet, so don’t confuse them with the functioning ones.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“At the bottom of the central core is the apparatus for self-destruct,” says Stone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
