Hall can’t open the airlock door.
“No, it’s no good,” says Stone. “The level’s contaminated. You’ll have to go to Three. Go to Three!”
“THERE ARE NOW TWO MINUTES AND FORTY-FIVE SECONDS TO SELF-DESTRUCT,” says the announcer.
The targeting computer has picked up on Hall again as he climbs the ladder to Three.
“Sway!” says Stone. Hall leans left as he climbs. “Weave!”
“You’re zeroed-in! Duck!” shouts Stone. Hall scrunches down on the ladder. A laser bolt hits the side of the ladder to his left. Hall turns to look.
The laser fires again, hitting Hall in the left cheek. Hall opens his mouth in shock.
“THERE ARE NOW TWO MINUTES AND THIRTY SECONDS TO SELF-DESTRUCT,” says the announcer.
“Keep going!” says Stone. “You’ll make it!”
Hall looks up the ladder. Everything around him is distorted and swimming.
“THERE ARE NOW TWO MINUTES AND FIFTEEN SECONDS TO SELF-DESTRUCT,” says the announcer.
Hall struggles to put his hand on the rung of the ladder.
“Fight the effect – it’s mostly shock!” says Stone.
Hall can barely hold onto the ladder. He tries to shake the cobwebs out of his head.
The laser fires again and misses.
“You’ve lost some time, but you can still do it!” says Stone, watching on a monitor. “See the door?”
“THERE ARE NOW TWO MINUTES TO SELF-DESTRUCT,” says the announcer.
Hall sees a very distorted Level Three door floating in front of him.
The laser fires again.
