Dr. Hall, frustrated, removes his mask and leaves the operating room.
TITLE: SECOND DAY
An Air Force UH-1N Iroquois lifts off from an airfield, carrying Drs. Stone and Hall.
Dempsey, the pilot, sits in the right seat. Stone and Hall sit in the back. All three are wearing what appears to be spacesuits.
“Are you sure the satellite isn’t radioactive?” asks Hall.
“No,” says Stone. “Manchek showed me the telemetry reports. Presumably, it could be some form of space germ.”
“Presumably this stuff is nonporous,” replies Hall, pinching Stone’s space suit. “Why did you pick me?”
“You’re an M.D.,” says Stone, “a talented surgeon who knows blood chemistries – – and you’re single. The ‘Odd Man Hypothesis.'”
“What the hell is -” begins Hall.
