Hall continues to ponder the missing substation, as Stone looks on.
There’s an announcement: “Watchdog to all levels – Scoop Seven capsule secure. Biogen sixty-six, plus nine, minus O-L five.” Stone heads into his quarters and sits at a desk.
The Scoop VII capsule appears on a monitor, cameras circling the outer rim of the capsule.
“Leo Control to Keepsake Five – the pressure integrity check runs two point five four gee, dash CM to the second. Please confirm,” says an announcement.
As Stone looks at the initial examination of the capsule, he thinks back to the earlier memories of the day: Piedmont, and the dead bodies in the parking lot of the church.
As he daydreams about these memories, he thinks about some of the horrific scenes: The Caper One driver with the gash in his head; the dead at the gas station; the old woman who hanged herself; the young nude girl, the child with the Raggedy Ann doll… And then imagines his own wife, dead in their bedroom.
